For today's Throwback Thursday I am actually sharing a mini file folder album I did years ago, 2005 to be exact, rather than a layout.

I had genuinely forgotten that I had created this album. I was going through some old stuff, doing a clear-out to get rid of some product I have never used and came across this little treasure.

I created this album for a friend who visited me here in London in 2005 just shortly after I moved here. We had been out of touch for a few years due to various house moves on both parts so I was pleasantly surprised when she got in touch to say that she was travelling to Ireland and also to England.

She was a bit meticulous and very methodical in her planning for her trip so I jokingly created this mock itinerary on the inside of the album as she was a chronic list maker. I ran the lined paper through my printer and as well a Post-it Note for the "Note to Self". I have to say she saw the funny side of it and she got a kick out of it!

The inspiration for this album was actually from someone I followed on Two Peas in a Bucket.  She had created something similar for a trip she had taken around Europe. I absolutely adored the album and asked her loads of question about how she created it.

Apparently it had been a kit that she had purchased which I was disappointed to learn. And why was I disappointed you may ask? Well, I am still somewhat of a budget savvy scrapper nowadays but back then I was even more of a scrimpy budget scrapper. I didn't like spending money on things that I thought I could make myself and it also probably didn't help that my husband (at the time) didn't really understand my hobby or why I would want to spend ALL THIS MONEY on just paper.

So I scrutinized all the photos of the album she had created online and thought to myself, I can make this! I can do this! It may not look the same as hers but I could definitely create a good copy. I took some heavy 12x12 craft cardstock and folded it in half, creasing it with my bonefolder and then created another fold about half an inch from the edge of this on the front and back cover of the album to allow the folder to open.

I was going to hold it all together with some large gold brads but knew that I would need some way to hide the brads on the front of the cover so I used a ragged torn strip from a brown paper bag down the spine of the album. I also thought this would give it a great oldy-woldy feel in tune with the theme of the album.

Then I just cut the page inserts from regular cardstock and created the file folder tab on the back cover of the album by tracing around a tab on a manila file folder.

I covered some of the pages with patterned paper (more than likely K&Co and Chatterbox) and left some of them blank.  Most of my embellishments would have been K&Co from their travel line called Journey (very old). I used a lot of Dymo tape,do love my Dymo label maker! Even now!

The titles were done with simple brown cardstock which I then tore into strips once I printed the titles on them and then inked around the edge with brown ink.

They definitely made the rounds with all the sites. Not missing a thing!  I used a mixture of colour, black & white and sepia photos to again give it that old vintage feel.

A day was spent with us at Windsor Castle and also at The Crooked Tea Shop in Windsor, definitely a must see for all visiting tourists!

This was around the time that the book The Other Boleyn Girl came out so they were a bit obsessed with Henry the VIII which made Windsor Castle a must on the itinerary list.

I really enjoyed making this album and was quite pleased with how it turned out in the end.

DECEMBER ALBUM

DAYS 8, 9 & 10

Today I am sharing Days 8, 9 & 10.

DAY 8

"ORNAMENT"

Today's photo-a-day prompt was "Ornament". I played around with this page for ages, trying different things - scraps of patterned paper, embellishments, different layouts on the page.  

Then I just decided to keep it simple. 

A single photo. A close up of a gold ornament. 

The number for the day. 

The title. 

And a sticker embellishment.

SUPPLIES:  The Christmas themed background paper is from my stash so quite old, it's by Daisy D's called Christmas Memories-Garnet. The metal tag is by Making Memories. The glittery red number 8 are Thickers by American Crafts called Pantry. The green stickers spelling out Ornament are by Simple Stories. The "tinsel" sticker is Cozy Christmas by Simple Stories.  

DAY 9

"WHAT YOU'RE READING"

I expect with this prompt it was imagined that I would be capturing a typical Christmas story, if I had children and was reading a bedtime storybook to them for the holiday season.

At the moment I am reading 'The Ocean at the End of the Lane'. Not exactly a Christmas themed story. 

I had originally started this book a while ago but struggled getting into it. I decided to persevere and give it another go as I have had a few books that I've struggled with to start in the past which have then turned out to be great books.  The Hunger Games being one example. 

I know this layout is not exactly Christmas themed nor in the usual Christmas colours but as I am including everything, my regular happenings plus Christmas related events I wanted to use papers that would echo an ocean like feel.  I'm also glad that I persevered as the book is turning out to be really good! Can't put it down. 

SUPPLIES: I have used a multitude of supplies on this layout, some of them scraps so brands are unnameable. I do know the background paper for the top layout is Sonnets by Sharon Soneff through Creative Imaginations called Maps Paper. The dark blue paper with the words "The End" on it is by Chatterbox. The chipboard letters are Thickers called Kitten by American Crafts. The rest of the alphas are Simple Stories. The water bubbles on both pages are super old by Creative Imaginations called Bits & Baubles. The silver card stock is Bazzill.

Disclaimer: Now I did just say I was going to keep things simple but bear in mind I did create the page for Day 9 after Day 8 & 10. As well, as there isn't enough natural light to use during the day to take photos, I am having to use artificial light to take them, which is washing out the colours in the photos unfortunately.

DAY 10

"WRAPPING PAPER"

The photo-a-day prompt for Day 10 is "Wrapping Paper".  Again, I tried to keep this page simple as well, as I had spent a fair bit of time on the previous pages from Day 6 & 7.

Didn't want to spend too much time or fall behind. 

I originally had this layout on the previous page, the one below, as I thought the wrapping paper design would go well with the pattern on the paper, but it seemed too busy so I put it on the back side of the insert. 

This background paper is by Simple Stories from the Cozy Christmas line, which I am just loving at the moment, as is the 3 x 4 "Don't get your Tinsel in a Tangle" card. The washi tape is bits of paper by Fancy Pants cut up to look like washi tape.

That's me for now with my December album!

Surprising myself even that I am staying on top of it! 

Although in saying that I don't really have much time for anything else but this!

OCTOBER - FALL IS HERE

Now that I have my laptop back in my hot little hands I have been scrapping away like a mad person to catch up! 

I have been printing off my October pictures and holding a steadfast position at my scrap table. 

This is my title page for October. I have always liked this style of photograph - (including a bit of your feet and inserting the month in text on the photo.)

To be honest I think I have done quite well so far as I am nearly done with October at this point.

This is the back of my title page - script with some Octobery words.

FALL IS HERE

Until moving to the UK, being a California girl, I never really got a chance to experience Fall or Autumn in an LA suburb, therefore I do really enjoy the turn of the season here.

It's the dreaded season that comes after it that I don't like so much!

I like seeing the colours of the trees change and then the leaves slowly flit and float to the ground over the upcoming weeks.

I took this picture whilst I was walking Rupert at Braywick Park.
 

SUPPLIES| This is simply a 5 x 7 photo on Chatterbox cardstock along with alphas by AC called Patchwork. Added a few leaves punched out of a paintchip card & the leaf in the lower left hand corner is an old Jolee's product.

BAKING

This page documents an unexpected day, sometimes the memories I cherish the most! 

As Simon works outdoors, when the weather is poor he unfortunately cannot go to work. On this particular Monday he was rained off work by mid morning. 

He came home and we spent the afternoon baking chocolate chip cookies and catching up on The Blacklist. An afternoon well spent!

SUPPLIES| Background paper is by K&CO from a Cut N Paste designer paper pad that I picked up at Target, of all places, years ago. The alphas are AC Patchwork and the (2) little die cut 1950's style stickers are by Melissa Frances called Kitschy Kitchen.

INSTA-PAGES

SUNDAY NIGHT DINNER & GOOD DOG

When I ordered my last Simple Stories Snap album I also ordered some of the new Instapages page protectors. 

I thought I would try this style as I have been taking a lot of Instagram pictures lately as well as using another app called Photofy and wanted to use these photos in my albums. 

I am really pleased with how these pages have turned out and as well it was fun to create such small detailed elements.

Family Album (super belated Christmas present)

This album is something I created and started working on in the days leading up to Christmas.  For this year I wanted to give my sister-in-law something that was a bit more heartfelt than a store bought present, as she is somewhat difficult to buy for sometimes.  Kinda like Rachel off of Friends, if you've ever watched the programme.  Basically you have to give her the gift with the receipt attached as more than likely she will want to return it for something she likes more. All kidding aside and more importantly, the main reason I wanted to create this album was because in clearing out her family belongings from her shed last winter, where we had stacked boxes and boxes of stuff from her father's flat when he passed away a few years back, we came across loads of family photos that were just thrown in cardboard boxes.  Being a scrapbooker and an avid photographer I simply thought these pictures could be put to better use, scrapped in a nice album, looked over and remembered fondly, so the idea for this album was born.

 As I am trying to work my way through my stash this year (I figure I have all this product, I should really use it rather than hoard it and still buy new stuff) so I don't have names and/or brands for a lot of what I used.  Like with the bits of scrap paper I used for layering, as I kept these in a cropper hopper in no particular order I'm not certain who they are by. However, I did keep track of what papers I used for the background pages and have listed those below.  Be forewarned, this is a photo heavy post.

I really did try to use up as much of my stash as I could and thought I would get through a fair bit of it but am still surprised at how much stuff I still have left over.  The letter tags above (J & H) I do believe are old American Craft embellishments.

 I wanted the album to mostly be about her and her mother, sort of a mother daughter album.  Therefore most of the pictures used are either of her or her mother or both with a few family pictures & wedding pictures peppered in.

 

 The "Family" card is by October Afternoon as are the typed words "Childhood Memories" and "Remember".
 

The "Beautiful" tag on the left hand side of this layout (above) is actually the top of a journaling card by 7 Gypsies.
 

The "Captured" tab on the right hand side of this photo (above) is by Paislee Press.  The other two stickers are Dymo labels.

On the last two pages of the album I used some various childhood pictures of her mother.

 

 

Supplies | The lettering and the brackets for the word "Memories" are Thickers.  The "Life is Good" chipboard embellishment is by Simple Stories.  The fabric brad is by Making Memories (I think, again something from my stash).

I really enjoyed making this album as it is probably more reflective of my scrapbooking style. I always liked making vintage themed pages when scrapbooking whereas I don't get to use that style much when documenting my Project Life.
